Sync: Redefining Public Space
This project (still under progress) was inspired by space limitations in public restrooms. The concept explores a different approach to the public restroom sink faucet through a redesign that allows multiple users to wash their hands under the same fixture simultaneously. Sensors places under the lip of the faucet allow a simple hand motion to activate immediate water flow. The water will only flow from the path that senses hand movement. I wanted to rethink the way public space can be experienced in a setting that considers the user through a new lens. In public restrooms, users typically want to get in and out in the shortest amount of time possible. This design speeds up the process by not confining users to individual sink units.
The faucet design implements motion sensor technology. Tiny water ports are placed 3 centimeters apart along the lip of the faucet. Water will only flow where it senses hand motion. This prevents water waste and allows multiple users to wash their hands simultaneously.
Sync would ideally be marketed in units such that the faucet length could be customized to bathroom size.
Water temperature can be controlled by the position of the hand under the faucet. Sliding the hand to the right or left under the sensor will change the water from hot to cold.
