Bridge
Bridge aims to rethink the experience between a parent and child in the case of accidental separation. It intends to be an integrative measure, meaning that it works alongside pre-existing technology to reconnect a missing child with their guardian. Worn by the child, Bridge is a customizable smart bracelet, serving a common purpose as a watch, and a preventative purpose as a locator phone. In cases of emergency, the bracelet can unfold into its elongated state and connect to a pre-set phone number that rings the parent's phone. This project integrates the use of smart fabric, which allows the child to change the appearance of their bracelet through downloadable styles, the goal being to further incentify use and personalization.
The renderings were created in solidworks and the prototype was built by hand with assistance from the CMU woodshop manager.
In its expanded form, Bridge serves as a phone. An emergency light turns on when opened and can be used as a flashlight.
In its closed state, Bridge serves as a watch/bracelet.
Bridge implements smart fabric to allow its wearer to customize the look of their bracelet.
The child can squeeze the buttons on the tracker to communicate to the parent that he has received her vibration and will wait for her there.
Or, if the child feels uncomfortable and wants to speak with his parent, he can unfold the tracker and connect to her phone
