Display/Exhibition Design -2012
Carnegie Mellon University hosts a campus wide event in which individual student organizations can design and construct themed structures for visiting children to walk throughout. Each room was staged to look like a diferent scene from the Indiana Jones movies. The booth won the overall "People's Choice" award and consists of almost all recycled materials. I was personally responsible for designing the exterior rock formation, made entirely of cardboard, and the interior details shown below. The entire experience was created to make the user feel like they have been asked by Indiana Jones to help him on a quest to find hidden treasure. Throughout the booth, visitors are led on an adventure-filled tour that takes them through elements of several beloved Indiana Jones movies.
Over 150 "rocks" were formed out of cardboard, painted grey, then textured with sand paint.
Installed in one week. Many of the exterior rock forms and trees were created pre-installation
Entry Room: Professor Jones has stepped out from his office. Follow the clues in the letter he left his desk to find the treasure!
There is no visible door when entering Professor Jones's office. Instead, the clue on the desk leads the tour to the bookcase, which slides open to reveal an internal cave-like staircase filled with vines and forest sound effects.
Welcome to Turkey. Dig for the next clue!
Hollowed-out books reveal clues about the chalice.
Which chalice is the correct one? Look for the cup that is not like the others.
Created from chicken wire, paper mache, and recycled newspaper.
The exist room displays the final stage of the hunt: the treasure.
